Recently we received a report from Jacinta, who was part of a Celebrating Children Seminar in the region of Pokot, Kenya. She writes: “The government leaders were shocked when they visited the village. “You brought life to these villages,” [they said.]
Those who attended past seminars reported that much has changed for them since the seminar:
– “Before we never used to respect one another,” they wrote, “but since you came we decided to love and care for one another.”
“We now love ourselves and we love our children very much. Keep teaching us so that we can be like the people in town.”
– They reported that the men never used to care about another person and now they are greeting each other, having conversations and sitting with their children and talking.
– There is now a savings bank in the village! Some beads were purchased so local women could start selling items, and now after a few months these 34 women have $1000 in their own bank!
“They are so open to learning and are willing to be taught,” writes Jacinta. “They want adult education to be able to help their children…to do something in small ways but with a great impact.”
This report is a beautiful example of the holistic change that can impact communities when they are given the tools for thriving together. From several seminars on trauma, child development, and family well-being, comes ripples of change that will continue to transform their lives for many generations.
Loom is excited to continue investing in the training and development of Seminar Facilitators in the coming year. This incredibly effective method of multiplying community change is growing beyond our wildest dreams, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.
