In 2013, we joined with a core team of practitioners in Dhaka, Bangladesh to finish the last two weeks of the Celebrating Children Workshop.
A year earlier, we had met Jeet and Seppi. This couple exemplifies what it means to see potential in hidden places. They had started a school in a garbage dump in Dhaka. They had seen children picking garbage along with their parents, and asked why they were not in school. What it came down to was a lack of hope for anything better. They realized it was their job to give them this hope.
We met Ahdika and heard about the way she and her family had been pouring out their lives on behalf of refugees existing in camps for almost three generations without any rights. It was an honor to come alongside courageous people like these who soaked up every bit of information and encouragement we could give them. The incredible part was that they wanted the training, not only for themselves, but were busy looking to see how they could take it to hard-to-reach places in Bangladesh so that more caregivers could be equipped. Who knows where they will go and the lives they will touch.
